Gone are the days of using newspaper classifieds and local real estate magazines to find homes for sale.  With the internet has come many real estate websites that give visitors information about homes that are for sale throughout the world.  You can take a virtual tour of your next home even if you are thousands of miles away.  All you need to do is look for homes in the area that you would like to live and then start browsing the listings.  Of course there are some sites that seem to stand out over the others.  Below are a few of the top real estate websites to find your next home.

Best Real Estate Websites

Realtor.com

Realtor.com has more home listings than any other website online.  It offers advanced features for searching and gives very detailed information on each of the listings available.  You will even be given information on the type of flooring in each house.  Other details such as the date of construction, type of property, and the construction type are also included.  Realtor.com also offers a map feature, but it is not as detailed as some of the other real estate websites.  You will also not be able to search for foreclosure homes and new home constructions.  This is because Realtor.com has a sister site called, Move.com who features these type of listings for them.

The only main downside to using Realtor.com is that the full address is not always shown.  But, this is a minor consideration with all the other things the site does to make themselves one of the top real estate websites available online.

Yahoo! Real Estate

Yahoo seems to have mastered the real estate website listings.  The information included has everything you could want.  This includes the full address, active listing date, price per square foot, and much more.  There is also a map to view and plot listings in terms of the vicinity to neighboring homes and streets.  There is also a feature that lets you view just the homes listed in the last 15 days to quickly see the newest listings available.

You will need to register with Yahoo to access all the features.  When registering you will be giving agents permission to contact you.  Considering that this is the only main downside, Yahoo Real Estate is another of the best real estate websites available to search.

House Locator.com

This real estate listing website is not as well known as the others but it has 99% more listings than any of its rivals.  The site features a simple but effective search function and you can narrow your search by city, zip code, state, beds, baths and price.  With House Locator you can also see how many houses are for sale in any given city.

The lay out of the site is one of the main downsides.  It can be tricky to find the function you are searching.  Some information such as full address, number of bedrooms and bathrooms can sometimes be missing.  But, it is up to the real estate agento to disclose this information, so the fault is not in House Locator.  The site works best for those who will be moving locally instead of nationally, but is still one of the top real estate websites when it comes to looking for real estate resources online.
